Fallen Tree Causes I-40 Crash, One Injured

By Justin Reed Apr 29, 2024 | 10:24 AM
A section of I-40 in Cumberland County was heavily congested for several hours Saturday after a large tree fell across both westbound lanes and caused a crash at the 330 mile marker. It happened around 4:45 pm.  According to the THP, a Ford Bronco and a semi-truck were slowing to stop for the tree when the tractor-trailer was struck from behind by a second semi, which pushed the first big rig into the median.  The driver of the Bronco took evasive action and drove through the limbs to avoid getting hit by both semi-trucks.  The driver of the second semi, 44-year-old Liban Mohamud Mohamud, of Minnesota, was injured.  According to reports, no others were injured and no charges are pending.
